(approximately 115 total credit hours over 4 years for required and elective courses) 

Required courses: approximately 100 credit hours (~53 in research) 

Required Anatomical sciences courses (20 credit hours) 

  • *ANAT-603: Methods of Curriculum Development and Teaching Human Gross Anatomy – (3 credit hours) 
  • *ANAT-624: Human Embryology – (3 credit hours) 
  • *ANAT-701: Medical Gross Anatomy – (7 credit hours) 
  • *ANAT-715: Medical Neuroanatomy – (3 credit hours) 
  • *ANAT-714: Medical Histology – (4 credit hours) 

* Some of the course requirements may have been fulfilled by recent graduates of the LMU Master's in Anatomical Sciences. Credit for equivalent experience/course work in other Anatomy MS programs may be allowed. 

Required Teaching practicums (11-12 credit hours) 

Teaching Practicums are required in Gross Anatomy and one other anatomical science subject (choose from Neuroanatomy, Histology or Embryology). 

  • ANAT-801: Gross Anatomy Teaching Practicum – (7 credit hours) 

AND choose one of the following subjects 

  • ANAT-802: Neuroanatomy Teaching Practicum – (4 credit hours) o Must also take ANAT-812: Advanced Human Neuroanatomy Laboratory – (1 credit hour) 
  • ANAT-804: Histology Teaching Practicum – (4 credit hours) 
  • ANAT-806: Human Embryology Teaching Practicum (3 credits) 

Required Statistics (6 credit hours)

Transfer of Course Credits 

Up to six graduate course credit hours, taken above and beyond requirements for a Master’s in Anatomy, may be transferred. All transfers require approval from the Director of the Anatomical Education Ph.D. Program.
